Climate Analysis Tools

The following sites make available useful tools that allow scientists to analyze the current climate as well as past climate for the time period when meteorological data has historically been available.  A link to sea surface temperature (SST) data has been placed here largely because SSTs have a profound effect on climate on monthly timescales or longer.

Climate Prediction Center
Use CPC at NOAA to assess weekly, monthly, seasonal, and extended long-range climate outlooks.  Long-range outlooks take into account current oceanic conditions along with atmospheric teleconnections around the globe.

Climate Diagnostics Center
Use CDC at NOAA to use plotting tools to analyze past climate and determine how the atmosphere and ocean are interacting to produce current weather conditions around the globe. More information about teleconnections here.

Climate Teleconnection Resources *NEW*
Useful teleconnection data and overviews on their effects on the general atmospheric circulation. Teleconnections include tropical and mid-latitude winds, arctic height patterns, and tropospheric and stratospheric wave action.

Oceanic Sea Surface Temperatures
View past and current SSTs and their anomalies. The strength and placement of SST anomalies worldwide have a profound impact on global and regional climate via air-sea interaction.  ENSO & PDO Indices here.

Other Useful Climate Resources
If unable to find what you are looking for in the main climate links above, you may be able to find it here. Includes links to NCEP, Aviation Weather, resources at NOAA Climate, NOAA Arctic, etc.
